This particular drill is a specialty drill. The name of the shot that this drill focuses on is called the scorpion. Some call it the squash. It’s basically a way to defend against an attack using the same side of your paddle, whether it’s a forehand or a backhand.
No matter what side of your body the ball comes to, you should be able to put a paddle on it because you’re not using a forehand or a backhand. When you realize an attack is coming, you simply put your paddle up in front of your face and regardless of the side of your body the ball is on, you can put a paddle on it and defend successfully.
