Consider this your guide to pickleball in the New England. Since the region is large, we’re focusing on Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine for this guide. We’ve included some of our favorite spots to play in each state. Grab your comfiest summer cardigan and come along as we explore pickleball in New England!
Pickleball America in Stamford, Connecticut
We all know the famous Field of Dreams line: Build it, and they will come. The group at Pickleball America did just that, turning an old department store in the Stamford Town Center into one of the largest pickleball facilities in the United States.
The 80,000-square-foot pickleball center has 28 courts on two floors. Store your street clothes in one of the lockers, hit the court for a match, then end your day with a quick shower and some downtime at the lounge or cafe. If your kids can’t join you on the court yet, they can enjoy the childcare area while you torch the competition.
PKL – South Boston, Massachusetts
PKL-South Boston is more than an indoor facility -0 it’s a pickleball parlor, according to its website. Pickleball players can drop in for open play or sign up for a clinic. When you visit, plan your match around the rest of PKL-South Boston’s events calendar, which features regular trivia and live music, as well as pickleball and cornhole leagues.
Come ready to play – and hungry. PKL-South Boston venue serves brunch and dinner. It also has a full bar with fun drinks named after celebs like Dolly Parton, Beyonce, and the Pink Panther.
Nantucket Racquet Sports Association in Nantucket, Massachusetts
This lovely Massachusetts island is a favorite of tourists – and a haven for locals. You can play with both at Nantucket Racquet Sports Association.
The facility has four outdoor pickleball courts and four platform tennis courts. There’s also a warming hut with a kitchen and on-site bathrooms. Although the association isn’t accepting new members as of June 2024, guests are still welcome. Open play is available daily, though times can vary.
Owl’s Nest Resort in Thornton, New Hampshire
Owl’s Nest Resort is known for its golf course and picturesque New Hampshire scenery. Now, it is time to add pickleball to the list. The new Racquet Court Complex is the only facility in the estate to offer tennis, pickleball, and platform tennis, according to its website. There are 13 pickleball courts available and a full slate of tournaments, clinics, and social events.
When you step off the court, indulge in indoor yoga at the Lakehouse or take in some live music and enjoy some wine at Panorama SIX82.
Ocean State Pickleball in Narragansett, Rhode Island
The options are endless for pickleball players at Ocean State Pickleball. Sign up for one of the many indoor clinics, leagues, or events at the indoor club, or schedule time on the ball machine or backcourt. If you prefer to play outdoors – and the weather permits – the club also partners with Old Mountain Field and West Kingston Park for leagues and lessons.
You can even take your training sessions up a notch with filmed lessons, 3 and Me lessons that let you and two friends play alongside a coach, or schedule a Drill Like a Pro session.
Stratton Mountain Resort in Stratton Mountain, Vermont
This mountain village has unique lodging options, plenty of dining, and, of course, pickleball. At Stratton Mountain Resort, there are eight pickleball courts at the Training and Fitness Center. Book the courts for a private match, sign up for a clinic, or participate in open play between June 8-September 8.
Be sure to leave some time to take a gondola ride up the mountain for views of the White Mountains, Adirondacks, Green Mountain, and Berkshires. You’ll love it so much, you’ll want to come back in the winter for skiing and snowboarding.
Seacoast Pickleball in York, Maine
This summer beach town is a favorite of tourists, and for good reason. It’s a quintessential New England stop thanks to its gorgeous beaches, lovely dining options, and coastal feel. Seacoast Pickleball lets you get out of the wind or snow for a quick game.
There are eight courts, and the club is members-only, although guests can book clinics and lessons. The facility has a lounge area, a game area with ping pong and corn hole, and weekly events for members.
