This video looks at fast hands progression. It’s a three phase progression. The first progression is where you and your partner just drive back and forth with quick, fast hands. You’re not resetting the points. So these would be attacking balls. Everything should be very quick and very fast. When doing this, you’ll notice that a lot of your balls will be going straight back to the exact point it came from. So, there’s no real thought put into it. Just pure reaction.
The second phase of this progression is fast hands, but the initiator is initiating the fast-paced ball, while their partner is simply resetting the ball every time. Their partner’s paddle should be facing upward while they have a light grip.
The third phase of this cooperative drill is where you’re hitting your partner on their hips. This becomes a drill for you and your partner. You’re going to hit their right hip, left hip, right hip, left hip. This is meant to get you focusing on moving your fast-paced ball in a different direction, while your partner is resetting the points.
Since this is a cooperative drill, you should not be hitting the ball 100%. You should be hitting the ball at about 70%. You’re trying to get it as fast as you can to different spots so that when you’re in the firefight of a match, you’re comfortable hitting different shots off of a drive.
