It’s very important to understand that it is never wrong, at any time or from anywhere on the court, to choose to hit the ball in the kitchen. This two-person drill, which has two players working together, is designed to have one player hit every single ball in the kitchen and their partner gradually pull them up and back, one step at a time, every time the ball lands in the kitchen.
You should work on hitting the ball in the kitchen from all areas of the court. Once a player has finished moving all the way back, they’ll gradually work their way up, hitting everything in the kitchen. Then it’s their partner’s turn to do the exact same thing. When you’re playing pickleball, you never have to wonder what the right or wrong shot is because it is always right to hit the ball in the kitchen.
