On lob coverage, it’s very important that you and your partner are on the same page with what you’re trying to accomplish when you play a team that has lobbed you successfully. It’s very important to realize that the best place to run when you’re on a court is to run forward. When you’re covering a lob, here’s what you want.
“Yours” is a word that doesn’t exist in pickleball. “Mine” is the word since running forward is the only direction you want to go. The idea behind this drill is that if you’re lobbed over, it’s your partner’s ball who turns and runs forward yet diagonal to go get the ball.
So watch how this team covers lobs and how they talk to each other. These guys just happen to be very, very good players. They were actually taking my lob, covering behind their partner and doing a third shot drop in the kitchen, which is the best response to your opponent’s successful lob
