Pulling off an around-the-post shot can often win the rally or at least move your opponents off of the kitchen and back on the defensive. Also known as an ATP, this shot relies on your ability to judge when there’s enough height and angle on your opponent’s dink that the ball has time to travel out wide. This creates the perfect opportunity for you to hit an ATP down the line. It’s a tough shot to defend because your opponent doesn’t have much time to react to a ball that’s coming low at their feet, and it forces them to defend within a short distance to keep the point going.
