The rocky coastline of Northern California is something to behold. Forests and fog offer an atmosphere that separates Northern California from the rest of the state. Here’s a luxury resort and an incredible, unique pickleball venue that are well worth a visit.
The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay in Half Moon Bay, California
You’ll never want to leave this stunning luxury resort – it has everything you need for the vacation of your dreams. The resort has four lighted pickleball courts. You can even book a private lesson with the pickleball pro to improve your game.
Of course, you’ll have to tear yourself away from the views first. The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay sits right on the Pacific Ocean on a picture-perfect bluff that lets you take in the expansive coastline.
Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California
This historic venue is a must-visit. You can play pickleball on-site. Courts are available with reservation from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday through the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. If you can’t snag a reservation, check out DinksSF. This local organization offers classes, events, and clinics. They also handle court reservations for court time from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Be sure to leave a little bit of time before or after your playing slot to explore the area. The Greco-Roman architecture and impeccable landscaping will leave you in awe.
Where to Play Pickleball on the Central California Coast
Northern California and Southern California get most of the attention, but Central California is worth exploring, too! This incredible lodge and growing sports venue are great places to get your pickleball on!

Tucked near hills in the Monterey Peninsula, this luxury lodge has everything you need for the perfect California vacation.
The resort has pickleball and tennis courts available for guest use. After winning a few matches, take a little break from the pickleball court for a quick round of golf on the championship course. After your day outside, grab shrimp tacos at Edgar’s Restaurant in the clubhouse or a steak dinner at scenic Covey Grill.
Templeton Tennis Ranch in Templeton, California
There’s more than tennis happening at Templeton Tennis Ranch! The facility features eight permanent, lighted courts, including four that are fully enclosed.
A group of certified pickleball pros hosts lessons and clinics for adults throughout the week. They also have an event calendar that includes round robins, DUPR Mini Tournaments, and camps.
They also offer bocce and a fitness center with weekly yoga sessions.
Where to Play Pickleball on the Southern California Coast
Between the sunshine and the surfing, it might be tough to squeeze in a pickleball match in Southern California. Trust us – these venues make taking a break from the beach worth it.

Grab your paddle and soak up the Orange County sunshine on the pickleball court. Sign up for a clinic, drop in for open play, or schedule a private lesson on one of 24 courts. You can also book a court for your playing group.
The courts are located at Golden West College and open to the public. After your match, head to the beach to cool off or Huntington Beach Pier for a post-match stroll.
