MOSTLY A’s:

Say Hello to the Sunshine State

Set your sights on Vero Beach, Florida! It’s known for being one of the state’s best spots for pickleball. There are a number of courts at parks around the city (including downtown hot spot Pocahontas Park) and a solid community of aficionados. Want to find some events or pickup games? Pickleball University (pickleu.com) organizes on- and off-court activities in the area. Other benefits of this locale: The weather is almost always sunny, it has a variety of hotels in various price ranges, and you’ll have plenty of trendy restaurants to try after working up an appetite on the court.

MOSTLY B’s:

Head to the Pacific Northwest

Consider traveling to the birthplace of pickleball—Washington State! Seattle tops the list for most pickleball courts per resident—three for every 20,000 Seattleites. In fact, a bill making pickleball the state’s official sport was recently signed into law. Summers here are beautiful, and if the timing works you can catch the 2022 Humana Seattle Metro Pickleball Classic, July 20–24. Players of all ages and skill levels can register for this tournament for a chance to win cash prizes (and bragging rights upon your return!).

MOSTLY C’s:

Costa Rica Is Calling Your Name

Want to really go for it? Pull out your passport and get to Costa Rica—the land of pura vida has a growing pickleball community. Check out our Resorts feature for a great stay option, plus the Pickleball Travelers Club (pickleballtravelersclub.com) offers all-inclusive retreats in the paradise-like province of Guanacaste. The weeklong excursions include plenty of play time, along with expert-led lessons, daily drills, and opportunities to hone your new skills with pickleballers in the local scene. Oh, and while you’re in Costa Rica, consider hopping on a board and learning to hang ten—surf instructors are abundant and the waves are incredible!
